August is National Children’s Eye Health Month

Your child’s vision plays an important part in their development. Their eyes should be examined on a regular basis as early intervention may be the key to treating vision problems and disease. Routine medical exams for children by age are listed below.

Newborn – 3 Years

Should be checked for general eye health by a pediatrician. High-risk children with a family history of eye problems and those with obvious eye irregularities should be examined by a pediatric ophthalmologist.

3 – 5 Years

Health screenings and visual acuity tests should be given by a pediatrician or family doctor.

After 5 Years

Routine screenings should be given. Children who wear prescription glasses or contacts should have annual checkups by an eye doctor to screen for vision changes.
